The main character is no anti-hero. She's as bought into this ridiculousness as anyone. The main antagonist is perplexing, with inexplicable antagonism brought from her own struggles, maybe?

Not sure. We were assured by friends that the show would get better, but it is treading the most inane waters of its premise. There are some minor characters, like the guidance counselor, who hit good comic notes.

The main character's parents are just awful, though. But the show doesn't quite mock their vapidity. MTV, just remake Daria already. That show had essentially the same structure but was far more incisive.

I have a thing for teen TV shows and movies. This is a good one. Has the right amount of fun, conflict and suspense. It's actually hysterical at times.

I've left high school decades ago in the mid 80s, but I love how universal the story lines are. I laughed out loud at the "Awkward" predicaments a lot, especially the ones where parents interrupt a critical and private teen moment.

Jenna's obsession with secret crush Matty McKibben is both epic and mind-blowingly inane. You will be amazed that a girl as smart as Jenna lets herself become a covert port of call for Matty and yet realize that Matty has a sensitive soul beneath his hunky hair and does have genuine feelings for Jenna.

And yet, maybe Jenna could do better with the the more intellectual Jake, except that he's dating a very devoutly virginal and popular cheerleader.

It's all confusing MTV gets a bad rap for shows like Jersey Shore and cheesy videos, but this is a great show that presents teens as being mostly intelligent, but inexperienced in life.

Jenna is one of the smarter girls I've seen on a modern teen show, and all the teen characters, both the girls and the boys are complex veering crazily between maturity and full out ditziness.

As in most teen show, adults are seen as clueless creatures, but here the high schoolers gradually realize that these adults are as confused as they are and not so bad.

One note is that there's way more sex in this show than in any teen show in my generation, but you also see that it's not consequence free either. The kids appear to have gotten the appropriate safe sex lectures, but that doesn't mean that the emotions are any easier to handle.

There are no easy answers for teens or parents, but sometimes seeing is better than telling when explaining why parents are justifiably nervous about this issue.

Is it possible? Am I actually recommending a show that airs on MTV? But I will preface all else by saying that it's scripted - it's not reality - and Matty, one of the characters, is shirtless as much as possible.

Is that kind of pointless? Maybe, but he's pretty good-looking so who are we to complain, really? Also it's still a high school show so there's not supposed to be a lot of depth.

Boys without shirts are always something good to add to the equation. The series follows Jenna's mishaps through high school and while some of them are super ridiculous - the first episode is a prime example - a lot of them are totally relatable.

She has a friend with insanely strict parents, a friend with awful taste in guys and has no clue when to leave well enough alone, parents that seem great but don't always get it and, of course, that one boy.

Who would I be to review something without talking to you about the love story? We're in season two right now and Jenna's involved in a monstrous love triangle between Jake and Matty.

I don't want to spoil anything for those of you who have yet to watch, but it's seriously ridiculous. I'm positive that this show is the only one that I watch live every single week no matter what.
