I came back to it when I was twelve or so, and it was still as wonderful. The story seems rather lighthearted and tame in the present day, but it's still a nice view of teenage life in that time.

The acting, I thought, was very good, particularly by the three Fossil girls. Although I felt it would have benefited from more ballet and theatre scenes after all, the girls DO go to ballet school , these were handled well.

My friend has this on video, and I was always under the impression that it was quite popular. I can't think why no one else has reviewed it, particularly as it's so highly rated 8.

Similarly to 'Billy Elliot' which is, admittedly, much better than this , you get a look at what goes on behind all the bright lights and perfection of 'stars'.

You must watch this movie, it takes you back to childhood adventures, friendships that blossomed, tears of lost hope, turned to joy, with flower petals being spread for the bride and groom, as they had waited, for so long to be married, and now it is happening, with all the family gathered around, in a fairy tale setting.

Love, at its purest, emotions that shook the screen, only to be fulfilled in time. A magic movie, for everyone, young, adults, grandma, everyone, this is a must see.

It is a good story and the cast is excellent. The title doesn't really match the movie. There are three girls and each reach for a different career.

I wished the movie could've explained why Gum was away for over 12 years and more of how each of the girls struggled to reach their dream career.

I didn't see their ending success. It was just kind of implied. One person found this helpful. The actors playing the Fossils were too old.

The running time too short, with little time for plot or character development. Good production values and Emilia Fox was excellent.

Well shot, acted and paced. That pacing being pretty slow. As this is an in depth look at the upbringing of three sisters, that can be tolerated.

What can't is the very cheesy ending where heart, heart everyone gets their wishes heart, heart. Four deus ex machinas in a row can do that.

Good for background. The movies is well acted and has a marvelous plot. Three girls who were orphaned as babies to a mother and her young daughter and through many courageous steps, hard work and working for one another all three have their dreams come through.

It has a wonderful cast and great sets which makes the film feel like it is a dream. A great adaptation from the novel by Noel Streatfeild.

An absolute gem while also giving us a great performance by Emma Watson. This is a delightful film. The book was written in the 's, but its expression of young girls' hopes and dreams is timeless.

The film is true to the book, with a few bizarre exceptions--what on earth was going on with Nana's hair, and where did the romance and all that smoking come from, and why?

However, these anomalies are easily overlooked because the rest of the film really captures the look and feel of the book--the way I always pictured it in my mind.

I only wish it could have been longer, so that we could have seen more of the story. Much of the casting is perfect--particularly Pauline, Gum, and Winifred.

Emma Watson is the perfect Pauline! I highly recommend this movie for anyone over age 8 or 9, and hope that it sparks a resurgence of interest in all of Noel Streatfeild's "Shoes" books.

Her stories embodied the concept of "girl power" long before the phrase was coined. Another "Shoes" film would be nice too--maybe someone will make Movie Shoes into a film.

It would appeal to both boys and girls. One can only hope! The story is original and very quirky, quite funny at times and then deeply moving.

Emma Watson plays a bit of a brat, but humbles easy. In an interview she once said that it is probable that she will do very little acting after Harry Potter, but after seeing this film I believe she is mistaken.

Insight into the plight of a single woman trying to support 3 orphans in post-war Britain was riveting. That those orphaned girls could find work in the entertainment field seems plausible.
