Every time I watch this movie it seems different. It had a tragic ending but these things happen to. One of the quotes of the God Father was he did his best to protect his family from the horrors of this world.

Which seems the case for a lot of us. The much maligned third installment of the Godfather saga is actually a very good movie. Sofia Coppola can't act, Tom Hagen is sorely missed though I like how the Connie Corleone character has progressed and the massacre in Atlantic City are significant flaws but the film is still an intense final look into the character of Michael Corleone and it had to be done to make his story complete.

Why was a role not made for Tom Robert Duvall? It's a letdown from the other two parts but I expected it. I wish I'd have spent a little more money and got the collector's edition of all three, I'd have the special features of the first two plus this movie.

The one bright spot is that Dianne Keaton is a better actress in this movie than the other two. Poor dialogue and filming.

Feels like a television series during non-peak hours about to be pulled. I hate not finishing movies. Normally, I would just rerent. Some consider this 3rd in the series to be just a moneymaker for the film, but it ties up some loose ends and has some great eye candy, Andy Garcia in his early 30's as a surprise character.

While not liked by the general public, GF3 is the final necessary chapter which truly paints Michael Corleone as the one true and undisputable Aristotelian tragic hero of the American Mob film genre.

If nothing else, Al Pacino's heartwrenching, visceral, genuine screams of agony are a moving conclusion to a fantastic crime drama series.

Striving so hard to be like his father, consumed by his hubris and failure to realize it until it is too late; this is the tragic flaw that brings Michael to his lowest point and what ultimately makes The Godfather Trilogy a classical tragedy.

The bill always comes due; as the theatrical film poster states: "All the power on Earth can't change destiny. This is a movie that has to be watched a few times, it does not compare with one and two.

But it is good. The first time I seen it, I didn't think it was that good, because one and two is so good. I would love to see Andy Garcia do Godfather 4, and see how his life went if you got the right actors, and good writers, it may be as good as Godfather I and II.

I actually prefer the title of 'The Death Of Michael Corleone' as Coppola initially wanted, but the studio refused, and insisted on calling it Part 3.

I personally would have liked a part 3 set in the 60's, then this one to conclude.. Perhaps Sofia Coppola was the wrong choice for Mary Corleone [no matter, she was sadly and cruely subjected to alot of pressure from producers, studio staff and the media], but I think it depends how you look at her character overall, within the movie a nervous, introvert 18yr old girl, not accustomed to the world of her father etc and analyse the story in toto, perhaps on reflection she played the character better than most of us inititally thought.

Anyway, Part 3 is such a good story overall, any occasional shortcoming can be disregarded, and the penultimate scene always brings a tear no matter how many times I've seen it..

Die Bosse lassen sich durch die Millionensummen besänftigen, die Michael ihnen zahlt. Nur Joey Zasa geht weitgehend leer aus und verlässt wutentbrannt den Raum.

Unmittelbar darauf endet das Treffen mit einem von langer Hand vorbereiteten Massaker, bei dem die meisten Bosse ums Leben kommen.

Vincent kann seinen Onkel aber unverletzt aus der Versammlung retten. Als Michael begreift, dass sein vorgeblicher väterlicher Freund, Don Altobello, hinter Zasa und dem Mordanschlag steckt, erleidet er vor Wut einen diabetischen Schock.

Michael Corleone ist nicht begeistert von dieser Eigenmächtigkeit, die von seiner Schwester Connie unterstützt wurde, und fordert nochmals von beiden Gehorsam ein.

In Wahrheit versucht er ihn jedoch zu entlarven. Durch Vincents Informationen muss Corleone erkennen, dass auf höchster Ebene Verbindungen bestehen, die ungünstig für ihn sind.

Dieser steht auch hinter Altobello. Sein Ziel ist es, den Besitz der Corleones an sich zu bringen und die Familie auszulöschen.

Da bereits erhebliche Summen von Corleone an die Vatikanbank geflossen sind, versucht dieser, auf anderem Wege Druck zu machen, um das Geschäft doch noch zu Ende zu bringen.

Unter anderem gesteht er, die Ermordung seines Bruders Fredo angeordnet zu haben, dessen Tod er seiner Schwester Connie gegenüber als Unfall dargestellt hatte.

Als integere Person versucht Lamberto, im Vatikan aufzuräumen. Dadurch werden die Logenmitglieder nervös. Der neue Papst wird daher vergiftet, er hat aber zuvor noch der Immobiliare-Transaktion im Sinne der Corleones zugestimmt.

Auch Michael Corleone selbst soll daher nun ermordet werden. Ein sizilianischer Killer wird auf ihn angesetzt. Michael fühlt sich den Anforderungen der kommenden Auseinandersetzung nicht mehr gewachsen und übergibt die Leitung der Familie an seinen Neffen Vincent, der damit zum neuen Don aufsteigt.

Damit das alte Revier der Familie in New York, das nach dem Mord an Zasa verwaist ist, nicht an andere Gangs fällt, will Vincent in diesem Bereich weiter kriminell aktiv bleiben.

Michael stimmt zu. Er macht es jedoch zur Bedingung, dass Vincent die heimliche Beziehung zu Michaels Tochter Mary, Vincents Cousine, beenden müsse, weil er sie schützen möchte.
